Why are Some Areas Cheaper?
Recent studies have discovered that people who live in the southern parts of the UK have access to the cheapest energy suppliers in the country.
In contrast, those living in the North West are offered fewer good deals, and therefore pay more overall.
The reasons for this can be complex, but can include: the lack of competition in a certain area, the smaller populations, the different fuel types (such as high consumption of oils rather than gas) or simply the fact that energy suppliers make less money in these areas and have to charge more to make their business model work.
In more remote areas, the infrastructure can be more expensive to maintain, and they may be serviced by smaller companies, without the same levels of servicing budget.
Worse still, the most expensive energy tariffs are often in the parts of the country where people are on the lowest wages, and have the highest living costs in general.
Not only are these customers dealing with the costs associated with living more rurally, but they are paying for their services as well.
This makes finding the best possible energy deal even more important.
