Anyone For Unlimited Energy Tariff In 2017?

Anyone for Unlimited Energy Tariff in 2017?

It sounds like it’s too good to be true – unlimited energy use for a whole year (or even two), at a fixed cost that you know upfront.

An unlimited energy tariff offers exactly that, and they are starting to be introduced in the UK from 2017.

But is it a good deal, and will you really save money in the long run?

Who Offers Unlimited Energy Tariffs?

There’s currently just one unlimited energy tariff deal available in the UK, offered by smaller energy supplier, Green Star.

We can bet that if it proves popular, there may be a number of other suppliers looking to offer similar deals, in the coming months.

So How Does It Work?

When you sign up to an unlimited energy deal, you will be asked for information about your energy usage.

Such questions usually concern information relating to: your previous bills, how much energy you tend to use across the year, as well as your current locality.

This will give the company an indication of your average energy use, enabling them to work out how much you should be charged overall.

At the start of the contract, you will be put onto a suitable tariff for your consumption – but it is entirely fixed.

That means that no matter how much energy you use over and above the average that has been calculated, you will never need to pay more.

Is it Really a Good Deal?

This sounds great, and for people on a fixed budget, it really is.

For an entire year, you will know exactly how much you will pay for your energy and you will be able to budget accordingly.

But it is worth noting that your energy usage may decrease for a number of reasons including: home improvements, the addition of insulation, a new boiler, or simply having fewer people in the household.

This will mean that potentially, you could end up paying more overall.

However, in this age of energy companies consistently putting prices up on a regular basis, the peace of mind that can come from knowing what to expect to pay for your energy bills can be invaluable.

Will More Deals Become Available?

With just one of these deals available at the moment, the unlimited energy tariff is a radical new concept (although it has been tried before).

If it proves popular, there is a good chance that other companies will jump on the bandwagon, and having that level of competition will mean that over time, these deals will only become cheaper.

So, if you want the peace of mind of knowing that your energy bills will cost you the same for an entire year, regardless of how much you use, look out for an unlimited energy tariff and see what savings you can make.
